FLUID IDENTITY ALGORITHM
3R00R Gallery, Gdańsk, Poland, 2025
“Fluid Algorithm of Identity” is a painting project that examines how digital interfaces and algorithmic systems transform perception and selfhood. The series merges traditional painting techniques with the visual language of screens — windows, cursors, glitches, and loading bars — to create a dialogue between the material surface of paint and the immaterial logic of data. Through layered compositions and reflective surfaces, the works evoke the tension between the intimate and the virtual, exploring what remains human in an era where identity is continuously rendered and updated.

DRAFT VERSION: ME
Fala of New Culture Foundation, Gdynia, Poland, 2025
In a world where the “I” increasingly appears on screens and memory turns into data, identity no longer feels fixed. It begins to operate like a file – opened, edited, temporarily saved, sometimes deleted. Draft Version: Me reflects on the contemporary self-portrait as a process of constant recalculation and overwriting.
Julia Tymańska, born in 1997 in Poland and a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk, investigates these processes through paintings and sculptural objects. Her images resemble open files, unfinished renderings, and figures woven from modeling grids and error messages. At their core is not a stable self, but a body in editing, an emotion pixelated, an identity in draft form.
As an artist shaped by the aesthetics of the late 1990s and early 2000s – operating systems, graphic editors, and shifting visual cultures – Tymańska transforms these influences into material for her practice. Her paintings become maps of inner interfaces, composed of technology, memory, and glitch. Her large-scale sculptures, inspired by leftover food, act as fragments of what has been consumed and discarded: memories, pleasures, or junk data.
In this space, digital identity does not appear as a coherent avatar. It is fragmentary, discontinuous, dependent on tools and environments. Tymańska shows that subjectivity does not disappear but changes its logic. Identity becomes a negotiation between self and system, memory and algorithm – raising the question: is identity today a choice, or the result of data processing?
